LightBurn is layout, editing, and control software for your laser cutter. DisclaimerLaser Engraving Software free download - Apple LaserWriter Software Update, HP LaserJet 6P/6MP Series Printing Software, SilverFast Canon Scanner Software, and many more programsLightBurn. My preferred alternative laser software is Lightburn. Out of the box, it performs well for simple tasks, but if you want to do more, you’re going to need to take advantage of alternative software and the Master 2’s (99%) ability to accept regular Gcode. Background F-Engrave is a text or image to g-code program (for both engraving and v-carving) that is written in python and is based on the text engraving software available in the LinuxCNCKnowledgeBase. The name F-Engrave is simply the predecessor programs name 'engrave' with an 'F' slapped on to indicate that the program can perform more formating functions like justification The Neje Master 2 is a small, affordable laser engraver with a strong following.MUST READ: Verify you are on the correct tutorial!LaserStar laser engraving software includes a comprehensive library of more than 100 True Type fonts, images, and wire-frame artwork. By following these instructions, you agree to take full responsibility for your health and safety of your environment. Lasers are dangerous and hazardous. I am merely a Neje user that wanted to use what I believe to be the best available laser software. Light Burn software is compatible with all OMTech CO2 laser machines of 50W and up.I am associated with neither Neje nor Lightburn. It is considered the premier PC and Mac laser engraver software available. If you have not modified your device, there should be a sticker indicating the version of Master 2 (non-S).Master (Original) - This Neje does not support Lightburn and does not have an available tutorial.Master 2 (non-S, non-homing) - This is the older version of the Master 2 which does not support auto-homing. This tutorial is for the Neje Master 2 (non-S, non-homing). Pls note: Dont Touch the Device and Engraving Material to any movement, Keep their Still. There are multiple versions of the Neje Master. Open the file of Software in Folder of MAC or WIN to start work.
![]() In most cases, this replaces the need for other image editing software such as Inkscape.Paths vs. This includes drawing vectors, cleaning up images, and even tracing images from raster to paths. This is possible in one job without any intervention.Powerful editor - Lightburn not only controls the laser, but it provides a more powerful editor. In Lightburn, you can set a job to engrave a path in step 1, raster an image in step 2, and then cut out the entire piece in step 3. If you want more, then here are a few things Lightburn can do that Neje cannot:Multi-step jobs at different power settings and different speeds - This alone is worth the price of Lightburn. You upload an image, pick your size, choose your feeds and speeds (power and speed in the case of a laser), and click ‘Burn’. The developers are often seen in the forums and regularly use the software themselves. Lighbturn not only accepts these file types, but can export in many of them as well when it comes time to sharing.Camera Compatibility - Ready to turn your laser setup to 11? With the addition of a cheap webcam, you can add a camera to your Neje Maseter 2 and design images directly on the material.Updated Regularly - Lightburn is one of those unicorns that is intuitive, affordable, and regularly updated. This results in much faster engraving for vector-style images.Compatible with many more file types - As you expand your search for files to engrave, you will quickly come across file types not compatible with Neje software. Lightburn engraves paths by drawing entire paths along curves and corners. This is necessary for images, greyscale, etc., but very inefficient when engraving single lines. It will often be off by a very slight amount, but still noticeable. In other words, if you see that you need to darken a spot on a finished piece, running the job again won’t go back to the exact same area on the finished piece. Forum discussion suggests that Neje may have the homing pins wired incorrectly.Poor Touch-Ups - Because homing doesn’t work well with Lightburn, it has a difficult time returning to an exact spot again after a job has ended. Extremely reasonable price, but I understand that some may not have the ability to spend an extra $40 on their setup. No Homing - Before you power on your Neje Master 2, you will need to manually move the laser head to the top-left corner. If you find any ways to mitigate these caveats (other than cost), please share them!Cost - The version of Lightburn required for the Neje Master 2 costs $40 at time of writing. Not only does Lightburn let you design with the laser off, but you can use your license on 2 separate computers to design on one computer, save your work to a thumb drive, and load it on a separate computer connected to your laser. There are many more benefits to Lightburn, but above are those I find most valuable. There are a few caveats you should know prior to performing any of these steps. Reading their wiki, it appears that they have difficulty detecting the USB. Neje detects the type of connection at start-up. Windows-Only - While Lightburn is Mac compatible, I was unable to get the Neje to connect via USB on my Mac. Visual studio for mac enable code folding not workingWhile I have had initial success with Mac, it is also inconsistent for me and I have therefore gone back to using my Windows machine. Mac Update : Many many folks are still having very inconsistent results with Macs. Instructions and a link below. I will be updating the tutorial soon to include this information. I just received a 2s 32 bit board that I am currently testing. Update : Most new Neje Master 2 machines ship with newer boards that have homing enabled. Also, Neje has since added more information for Mac users (some of which might help Lightburn users). Given all the problems reported, those attempting to set up on Mac should be prepared to run into issues and need to troubleshoot. Engraving Software Upgrade Tool VersionI haven’t tested this version myself, but comments on this blog suggest good results (and some improvements).Troubleshooting Tip: Some still have issues updating their Neje with this tool. Note: It took me several attempts until the upgrade “took.”Note () : I have updated the link to above to Neje’s upgrade tool version 3.2. Follow the instructions on the upgrade tool to upgrade your Neje. Remember, Lightburn completely replaces your Neje software, so you will never need to open it again (although you can switch back and forth if desired).Ensure that the laser is plugged into the PC via USBI was unsuccessful in my setup until I upgraded the GRBL firmware to 1.1f again using Neje’s specific tool found on the Neje wiki. Later machines have homing enabled and require a different tutorial.Patience - I have tried to break this tutorial down into the most simple steps (and others may help me simplify it further), but expect trial and error and seemingly unnecessary restarts.Close all other applications (including any Neje programs). Earlier machines are likely not compatible due to their inability to accept standard GRBL Gcode. Be prepared to troubleshoot. It’s what I needed to do.Update (): Mac users have had very inconsistent results. MAC (New )Note: On newer MacOS versions, you may need to grant special permission for the driver install, reboot, install again, and reboot again. I will update this post if someone confirms one way or the other. If not, some have had luck downloading a trial of T2 and using their firmware updating tool, then switching back to the Neje update tool.Step 2 - Install LaserGRBL Drivers (if needed) Windows PCInstall the drivers by launching the downloaded file.Note: If you are willing to test a theory for me, please skip this step and let me know if you are still able to connect. Below is the best settings I could muster.Note: If you wish to have a 2nd copy of Lightburn on a different PC strictly for design purposes, then all you need to do on the 2nd PC is to import this device profile. After downloading the Neje Device Profile, import it into Lightburn by finding the ‘Devices’ button on the near the bottom-right and clicking ‘Import. This is the device profile. Step 4 - Download and Import Neje Device ProfileLightburn needs to know about your Neje device and how to talk to it. If you decide this software is for you, then the cheaper version is all you need ($40 at the time of writing).Open Lightburn and close/cancel any pop-ups. I encourage folks to use the trial first to ensure the software works with your machine. Step 3 - Download Lightburn 30-Day TrialWarning - Starting this step, do not attempt to run Gcode or burn a file until all of the following steps are completed. As of this writing, the trial lasts 30 days.
